Privacy Notice
How Motivation Manual handles information across our website, free tools and professional communications.
Motivation Manual and Motivation Manual Tools · Updated 28 October 2026
1. Introduction
Motivation Manual provides research-informed information and practical tools to help people understand motivation, clarify their goals, make decisions and take meaningful action.
This notice explains how information is handled through www.motivationmanual.com, tools.motivationmanual.com, and related enquiries and professional communications.
2. Who is responsible for your information?
Motivation Manual is operated by Dr Dan Bishop, who is the data controller for personal information processed in connection with these activities.
For privacy enquiries or requests to exercise your rights, email motivationmanual@outlook.com.
3. Information collected when you visit
When you visit our websites, technical information such as IP addresses, browser and device details, technical identifiers and pages visited may be processed by website hosting and related services.
Such processing may be needed to deliver and secure the websites and diagnose technical issues. Our main website uses Wix. Where appropriate, our lawful basis for necessary website administration and security is legitimate interests. Where non-essential cookies or comparable technologies require consent, that consent is sought separately.
4. Your reflections and interactive tool responses
Your reflections stay on this device by default. Motivation Manual Tools is designed to save your progress in your browser for up to 30 days, so you can return without automatically losing your work.
Locally saved information may include goal and action text, answers to tools, generated plans, and progress or route information. Under the current implementation, this information is saved in the browser rather than transmitted to Motivation Manual servers as part of saving your progress.
The current tools analytics adapter does not transmit interaction events over the network; it records non-personal debug events only during the current browser session. Goal text, custom plans, raw answer arrays and email addresses are not included in tool analytics.
These statements concern the interactive tools themselves. Hosting providers and other website features may process technical information separately. Clearing browser storage, using private browsing or changing devices may remove locally saved progress.
5. Enquiries and correspondence
If you contact us, we may process your name, email address, organisation and the contents of your message to respond to your enquiry and manage correspondence. The lawful basis is generally our legitimate interests in responding to enquiries and administering Motivation Manual, or another applicable basis depending on the circumstances.
Contacting us does not subscribe you to a newsletter. We do not currently operate a general email newsletter.
6. Professional outreach and organisational communications
We may contact professionals in education, employment, careers guidance, training and related fields to introduce free resources, invite feedback and explore appropriate organisational use.
We may use professional names, roles, organisations, business email addresses, publicly available information relevant to work responsibilities, and correspondence or contact preferences. Information may come from organisational websites and publicly available professional directories.
Where appropriate, we rely on legitimate interests and assess necessity, proportionality and reasonable expectations. We also seek to comply with the applicable rules on electronic direct marketing.
You can object to direct marketing at any time. Reply to an outreach email or contact motivationmanual@outlook.com. We will stop such communications and may retain a minimal suppression record to respect your choice.
We do not sell professional contact information or provide prospect lists to third parties for their own marketing.
7. Cookies and similar technologies
Our Wix website uses Usercentrics for Wix to provide consent choices for cookies and similar technologies. Visitors can accept or reject non-essential categories and manage their preferences using the site's consent controls.
The site's initial scan identified Wix CMS, Usercentrics for Wix, Wix Stores and Google Fonts as declared components, as well as additional technical resources requiring classification review. Detection of a resource does not by itself mean that it uses non-essential cookies or processes personal data for advertising.
Essential technologies may be used where necessary for website operation, security or consent management. Technologies requiring consent should be used only once valid consent has been obtained.
The separate tools website uses browser storage as described above. Its broader technical storage and consent arrangements are being reviewed independently.
8. Storage and protection
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect information against unauthorised access, misuse, loss and disclosure. Administrative information may be stored in email systems, Google Workspace and other services supporting Motivation Manual, with access limited to operational need.
Locally saved tool reflections are not part of our professional outreach database.
9. Retention
We keep personal information only as long as necessary for its purpose, subject to legal obligations. Our intended arrangements include:
- Tool progress: saved locally for up to 30 days under the current implementation.
- Uncontacted prospects: reviewed at least annually and removed when no longer relevant.
- Non-responding professional contacts: normally deleted within 12 months of the last attempted contact, unless further retention is justified.
- Professional correspondence: retained while the relationship or enquiry remains active, with periodic review.
- Marketing objections: minimal suppression information may be retained to prevent further unwanted contact.
- Website technical records: retention depends on the service and configuration.
10. Service providers and international transfers
We use third-party services to operate the websites and support communications and administration, including Wix, Usercentrics, Google Workspace and applicable email and tools-hosting providers. Depending on their role, providers may act on our behalf or as separate controllers.
Some providers may process information outside the UK. Where a restricted international transfer occurs, appropriate safeguards or an applicable adequacy arrangement should apply.
We do not sell personal information.
11. Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct, erase or restrict processing of personal information; object to certain processing; withdraw consent where relevant; and request data portability where applicable.
You have an absolute right to object to processing for direct marketing. To exercise your rights, email motivationmanual@outlook.com.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
12. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice when our websites, tools, communications or legal obligations change. The latest version will be published here with its update date.
